The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has confirmed the closure of applications for the position of Leone Stars Head Coach, reporting a strong international response as the national team continues efforts to rebuild its technical setup.
The Association said the application period ended on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, with a total of 79 submissions received. These include three applications from local coaches and 76 from foreign candidates, underscoring broad international interest in the role.
The SLFA stated that its Technical Committee and Technical Department are currently reviewing all submissions as part of the selection process. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to the next stage, which includes interviews.
According to the Association, the volume of foreign applications highlights the growing visibility of the Leone Stars head coach position on the global football market, as Sierra Leone seeks to strengthen its competitive standing ahead of upcoming international commitments.
While reaffirming its commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, the SLFA did not provide a timeline for when a final appointment will be made.
