More than 200 media professionals gathered on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, for the “Chop and Chat” Media Engagement—Afrimoney’s flagship corporate event. Organized by Sierra Leone’s leading mobile money service, the event marked the official launch of Afrimoney’s innovative “Tap 2 Pay” card, a digital payment solution that enables users to pay for goods and services with a simple tap on a POS terminal.

Billed as the largest gathering of media practitioners so far this year, the event brought together key stakeholders in the country’s media landscape. Discussions centered not only on Afrimoney’s expanding mobile money services, but also on how these solutions can unlock new opportunities for business growth and enhance service delivery nationwide.

The engagement also served to brief members of the Fourth Estate on the critical role digital financial services play in driving economic growth and national development.

Speaking at the event, Afrimoney’s Marketing Director, John Konteh, described the Tap 2 Pay card as a fast, seamless, and user-friendly innovation designed to improve customer experience.

“Today, we are leaving our footprints in the sands of time. At Afrimoney, we do not only innovate and sell products for profit—we place our subscribers at the center of everything we do. This Tap 2 Pay card has been specifically designed to offer comfort, safety, durability, and reliability,” he said.

In a presentation, Afrimoney CEO, Martison Obeng-Agyei, introduced the new card to journalists, emphasizing its potential to transform transactions and strengthen the push toward a cashless economy in Sierra Leone.

“Today, we are giving you these cards to experience firsthand how they work and to provide feedback. We also trust that you will help spread this good news across Sierra Leone and beyond,” he noted.

Also in attendance was the Africell CEO and Chief Media Officer, who highlighted the company’s longstanding relationship with the media, underscored by numerous partnerships and sponsorship initiatives.

Other notable speakers included the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Alhaji Manika Kamara, and the National Outreach Coordinator and Head of the Strategic Communications Unit at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, Abubakarr Joe Sesay.
