Arsenal F.C. won their first Premier League title in 22 years on Tuesday after rivals Manchester City F.C. were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth, ending City’s reign as English champions.
The result left Arsenal four points clear at the top of the table with one game remaining, putting the title beyond City’s reach.
Bournemouth took the lead in the first half through Eli Junior Kroupi, whose curling strike stunned the defending champions at the Vitality Stadium.
City pressed for an equaliser and found one deep into stoppage time through Erling Haaland, but the draw was not enough to keep alive their hopes of winning another league crown under manager Pep Guardiola.
The title is Arsenal’s first since the club’s unbeaten “Invincibles” campaign under former manager Arsène Wenger in 2004.
Thousands of Arsenal supporters gathered around the Emirates Stadium and across north London after the final whistle to celebrate the club’s 14th English league title.
Manager Mikel Arteta, a former Arsenal captain and ex-assistant to Guardiola at City, completed a rebuilding project that transformed Arsenal from top-four challengers into champions.
Arsenal’s success also ended a period of domestic dominance by Manchester City, who had won multiple league titles over the past decade.
Bournemouth’s result strengthened their hopes of qualifying for European competition next season.
