A women’s group within Sierra Leone’s opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has endorsed flagbearer hopeful Dr Ibrahim Bangura, praising his “Heal, Unite & Build” campaign message as a framework for national renewal.
Speaking in Freetown, Madam Jeneba Sesay, a leader of the DIB Iron Ladies, said Sierra Leoneans are facing significant economic and social challenges, and called for leadership that prioritises unity and reform.
She said Dr Bangura’s message was resonating within parts of the party and among supporters, adding that his approach focuses on inclusion and engagement at community level.
“In these difficult times, the country needs a leader whose vision speaks to healing and national direction,” she said.
Madam Sesay drew a comparison between Dr Bangura’s leadership narrative and the moral example of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), describing it as symbolic of unity, sacrifice and guidance.
The group also urged APC members to reject vote-selling ahead of internal party processes, warning that short-term incentives could undermine long-term political stability.
“Our power is in our vote. Do not trade your future for immediate gain,” she said, ahead of the party’s lower-level elections, the 2026 national convention in Port Loko, and the 2028 general elections.
The DIB Iron Ladies described Dr Bangura as a security and peace expert with international experience, citing his engagements with institutions including the European Union, African Union and ECOWAS. They also referenced his academic work at the University of Sierra Leone, where he is involved in mentoring and leadership development.
According to the group, his policy focus includes job creation, skills development, investment attraction, improved livelihoods and national unity, which they say respond to current economic pressures.
“With the economy under strain, Dr Bangura presents a structured and practical approach to national recovery,” Madam Sesay said.
She added that his campaign is anchored on transparency, accountability and inclusive governance.
“If Sierra Leone is to move beyond ineffective leadership, then his vision offers a credible alternative,” she said.
The group said it will continue grassroots mobilisation and civic engagement in support of his campaign in the coming weeks.
