Two rescued from forceful Bondo initiation

Two women- 53-year- old Agnes Jayah and 16-year-old Aisha Sesay both of Bolima Community-Waterloo, have been rescued by the Waterloo Police Divisional Operation’s Team.

The two women were captured on the 16th of July, 2023, and forcefully taken into a secret society bush on the outskirts of Bolima community- Waterloo, to be conscripted as Soweis – a post-graduate stage of the Bondo Secret Society.

“Family members of the two victims together with the village head of Bolima Community, and several other stakeholders whose appeals for the release of the victims fell on deaf ears resorted to soliciting the intervention of the highly revered Operation’s Team of Waterloo whose swift action brought relief to the victims and their families,” a report from the Waterloo Police Media has stated.

Meanwhile, “the ring leaders of the Soweis, including Hawa Kargbo, Makalay Turay, and six others are being investigated at the CID Waterloo Police Station for a series of offenses including, but not limited to, Kidnapping, Gorceful Initiation, and more.”

Some items used in Sowei initiation were arrested and treated as exhibits
