SLFA Ordinary Congress in limbo as elective comes close

By Alhaji H. Koroma

The Sierra Leone Football Association(SLFA) ordinary congress, which was scheduled for June 30th and July 1st – 2nd, 2024, has been postponed indefinitely by the federation due to the closure of the main administrative building by the High Courts.

Football stakeholders and fans are preparing for the upcoming elective congress, set for June 2025, where mandates would be assigned to deserving individuals in various elected positions.

Keeping the date of the ordinary congress uncertain is viewed by stakeholders and fans as a delay tactic in the smooth administrative process leading up to the June 2025 elective congress.

“The association must notify its members of the date for this ordinary congress. This particular ordinary congress is expected to be one of the most significant in the history of Sierra Leone football, aiming to reform several non-existing committees and laws. It’s essential to note that as a nation, we have numerous qualifiers for both the World Cup and the Nations Cup to prepare for,” a football stakeholder who preferred anonymity has intimated this medium.

The SLFA is actively conducting all its administrative duties except for the ordinary congress, which has been strategically sidelined under the pretext of ongoing court cases in this modern electronic age we live in.

Citizens now strongly believe that SLFA should promptly schedule a date for the ordinary congress and inform all its members, thus initiating football reform during that congress.

The elective congress is slated for June next year, with two candidates already in the race. There is speculation across the country that a few more individuals will enter the race for the highest position in football, but their intentions will only be made public after the ordinary congress is held.
