The Minister of Internal Affairs Major-General (Rtd.) David T.O Taluva has stated that the government has seen and heard threats about a planned protest this month by unnamed people and groups to disturb the peace in the country but have emphasized that anyone who comes out in the name of protest will surely meet his death.
Responding to questions in an interview at Africa Young Voices Television Wake Up Salone Pregram, Mr. Taluva said the whole Freetown will be covered and their would be no escape route for the planned protesters.
“It natural for people to worry with such news circulating on Social Media. You know their is a saying that once bitten twice shy. People have seen this kind of horror before, maybe many times in the 90s they have seen things like this, and also in the last couple of years they have seen things like this as well; so their is every need for people to be panicked and their is every need for their adrenaline to rise up because of past experiences.”
“We cannot stop thing from happening but there is a way we can prevent things from happening, but once somebody is determined to die, like those who came out on the 26th November, 2023; they were determined to die because there is no way they were going to succeed but they were determined to die. Like these ones too if they come out they are also going to die. This time around we are not going to have any loose ends that people may escape. We are making sure that we seal the entire Freetown to ensure that there will be no escape route for anyone.”
“The security situation in the country is not fragile and I won’t bank on that. Take for example, you expect a soldier at the ammunition dorm to guard the ammunition dorm, that is constitutional. You will not distrust anyone and not allow him to guard the ammunition dorm. But in their duty they renege and allow people to break into the arm store, took away arms and ammunition with the help of men in uniform. The government is paying people to do their job and no one is expecting a soldier to aid someone to break into the ammunition store but they did unfortunately.” He stated.
In another development the Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation Mr. Rex Bonapha engaged Bike riders, kekeh riders and commercial vehicle drivers on the need for them not to get involved in any planned protest. The drivers assured the Minister of their commitment to peace and assured that they will maintain peace at all times and would not be involved in anything that will disrupt the peace in the country.
