The just conclude 2024/25 Wuhan International University Football League featured two Sierra Leonean students, representing the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST).
Ron Gandy-Williams and Alhassan Kamara have excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities, demonstrating exceptional football skills for HUST and the entire Wuhan community in China.
The two Sierra Leoneans helped their university to claim its first ever football trophy in history.

In a historic achievement, Ron finished as the tournament’s highest goalscorer, netting an impressive 26 goals. He is the first player to score against every team in the competition and was also awarded the title of Best Player of the Tournament.
Speaking to the MVP of the tournament, Ron expressed profound excitement for teaming up alongside Alhassan and the rest of the team go to get HUST its first major football trophy.
“I’m so grateful to Chinese government, government of Sierra Leone, the management of HUST and my teammates for granting me this opportunity to showcase my football skills,” said Ron. Adding that he has played football all his life and always excited to walk on the grass and make his team and fans excited.
“We are just happy to shed a positive light on Sierra Leone through education and football,” Alhassan commented.
