The future of Sierra Leonean football sparkled in Monrovia as the U-17 girls’ team stormed to victory in the maiden WAFU A U-17 girls’ tournament, finishing unbeaten and claiming every major award on offer.
The young Lionesses wrapped up their championship run with a commanding 4-1 win over hosts Liberia, topping the table with 10 points from four matches. Across the competition, they proved untouchable—playing twice each against Senegal and Liberia, firing in 10 goals and conceding just three.
Senegal settled for second place with four points, while Liberia, despite ending their campaign with a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Senegal, had to settle for third.
Sierra Leone’s dominance wasn’t limited to the pitch. The team scooped all the individual accolades:
- Marian Sankoh dazzled her way to the Golden Ball as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
- Hawa Marison stood tall between the posts to claim the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper.
- Sarah Turay secured the Top Scorer trophy after netting three goals.
With their trophy haul and electric performances, the young Lionesses have announced themselves as a force to watch in West African women’s football.
