The National Reformation Movement (NRM) has warned the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party and its stakeholders to uphold their party’s constitution and to maintain unity within the party noting that an attempt to violate or circumvent any aspect of their constitution will be meted out with resolute resistance from the movement and like-minded party members.
In a press statement, signed by its current chairman, Ing. Philip Milo Kamara, it’s established that the Movement’s attention is drawn to what they termed as a ploy to bring the 2022 APC Constitution to a blatant disregard pursuant to Section 47 (a and b(iv) requiring the leader and deputy leader of their party to relinquish their positions within six months following the pronouncement of results by Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) notwithstanding petition in court.
“These provisions of the APC Constitution are neither ambiguous nor drafted in a mischievous language. The APC 2022 Constitution is a bi-product of the advocacy and call for constitutional reforms in the party, NRM being the greatest benefactor and as such, the Movement will not stand muscled seeing it facing a threat of disregard,” their statement adds, indicating their commitment to the November 2022 democratic constitution of their party which they argue many have greatly sacrificed for, and therefore must be respected and upheld by all party members without exception.
“The NRM will continue to stand by the party in the call for Electoral Justice, but also calling for constitutional justice, because constitutional injustice can also lead to electoral injustice.”
NRM believes that they will steadfastly support the full implementation of the party’s constitution without bias or favoritism.
They have therefore called on all comrades and stakeholders to conduct their thoughts and actions strictly within the bounds of the law and democratic best practices whilst pledging their continued support to peace-building initiatives within the party and ensuring the proper and lawful functioning of the APC.
Furthermore, the NRM is deeply concerned regarding the hate speeches being disseminated by certain bloggers within the party and some national figures from across APC.
“These divisive messages serve only to widen internal fissures and impede our party’s progress towards reclaiming State House and wreaking havoc on the nation of Sierra Leone. We strongly urge all bloggers and their sponsors to cease and desist from such actions that undermine the peace and unity of our party and the state in general.”
They think a divided party cannot effectively lead disclosing that strength lies in their unity as a party.
“We urge all party comrades to remain vigilant in safeguarding our hard-won democratic principles and to promote messages of unity and reconciliation. The strength of our party lies in our ability to work together towards our common goals.”
