Sierra Leone: ECSL to announce results for village head elections shortly

The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone( ECSL) has confirmed they will be tallying results for the village head elections in the Western Area Rural District on Monday, 30th October, 2023, at the ECSL National Tally Centre.

The process, according to the Commission, will commence at 10 am.

ECSL has also disclosed that “provisional results for all the Village Head Elections will be announced after the tallying of results at the ECSL National Tally Centre at Wellington, Freetown.”

“The date for the announcement of the final and certified election results will be communicated in due course”

According to ECSL, “voting took place in 663 out of 668 polling stations in 88 villages in the Western Area Rural District.”

The election has been pronounced peaceful except for some few skirmishes.

Waterloo Police Division says fewer arrests were made on the day of the elections.

However, ECSL states “voting was cancelled in polling centre 15327, Mile 13 Sussex Kingtom due to misplacement of polling centre.”

“Candidate agents were present in all polling stations. The presence of the Sierra Leone Police, RSLAF and ONS was visible in all polling centres. The elections were observed by Elections Observation Network (EON), Sierra Leone Civil Rights Coalition (SLRC), International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) and Diaspora Focus.”

“Voting in the entire Western Area Rural District ended at 5:00 p.m today 280 October, 2023. Counting took place in all 667 polling stations.”
