Police in Sierra Leone have confirmed that they have charged Abdul Kpaka, a seasoned advocate, and business man for the alleged murder of her 28- year-old girlfriend Sia Fatmata Kamara.
According to the police, Kpaka is expected to appear in court today, Wednesday 28 August 2024. However, he has been arrested since 16 August, after it was reported that his girlfriend’s death was a result of domestic violence he had meted out on her.
Sia Fatmata Kamara, a communications executive at the Freetown City Council was attached to the delivery unit of Freetown’s city Mayor Yvonne Aki Sawyer. Her death sparked so much condemnation after her news of death flooded social media with rights and women’s group calling for an investigation into her death after a post-mortem confirmed that her death was a result of broken ribs and a damaged spinal cord allegedly emanating from the violent acts of her boyfriend.
In a recent live video message on Facebook, the country’s first lady Fatima Jabbie Maada Bio extended her condolence to Sia Kamara’s family and vowed that justice will be served for her death, adding that she was closely following the case.
‘’We must give the authorities the space they require to carry out their work and to reach their conclusions,’’ First Lady Fatima Bio has urged.
In her message she also called for patience from the family, rights groups and the public at large, stating that Sia’s death has captured national attention and has also raised serious issues about domestic violence in the small West African nation.
According to a family source, the former communications executive will be buried this Sunday 1 September, 2024. The source disclosed there will be a laying out memorial service for her on Friday August 30, at the Freetown City Council Auditorium.
Many have taken to social media thanking the police for concluding the investigations and charging the matter to court.
‘’Thank you to the Sierra Leone Police especially the HeForShe IG Fayia Sellu and to all who helped raise furore including our Mother of the Nation, H.E. First Lady Fatima Maada Bio. May Sia’s soul RIP,’’ wrote Dr. Sylvia Blyden on her Facebook page.
