The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have confirmed the killing of Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu, a Catholic priest of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Burma 3 Section, on the outskirts of Kenema.

According to a police statement issued on Saturday, 30th August 2025, the priest was attacked overnight by unidentified armed men who broke into his parish residence through a damaged window. Father Amadu, who lived alone at the parish house, was found dead in the early hours of the morning.

Police investigators visited the scene and later conveyed his remains to the Kenema Government Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Authorities say it is not yet clear whether the assailants stole any property from the residence.

“No suspects have been arrested yet; however, a number of parishioners and church authorities who reported for early morning service are currently assisting the police with statements,” the release stated.

The SLP assured the public, particularly the Catholic community, that a full-scale investigation is underway to bring those responsible to justice.

The killing comes just days after police operations in the Southern Region uncovered a cache of weapons and police uniforms in Bo. On August 27, officers arrested Rodney Massaquoi and his wife, Mamie Jacob, after discovering a single-barrel gun, an empty rifle magazine, several Operational Support Division (OSD) uniforms, boots, belts, and knives in their home. Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

The police have called on the public to remain calm and to provide any information that could aid the ongoing investigations into both cases.
