President Dr Julius Maada Bio met with representatives of Sierra Leone’s Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) at State House on Thursday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering private sector growth and closer collaboration with key economic stakeholders.
Speaking at the engagement, President Bio highlighted the sector’s importance, noting that oil marketers directly affect the daily lives of Sierra Leoneans. He framed the meeting as an opportunity to listen to concerns, strengthen partnerships, and identify ways government and businesses can work together to ensure sustainable economic growth.
“This year, I am not only acting; I want to act with haste. If we are to work together, we must continue to engage in dialogue,” the President said.
It’s noted that the engagement signals a continued effort by the Bio administration to position the private sector as a central driver of development, particularly in sectors that influence basic services and household costs.
Chief Minister Dr David Moinina Sengeh said the meeting underscored the strategic role of oil marketing companies in Sierra Leone’s economy and broader development agenda. Analysts suggest that regular dialogue with the private sector could help address supply challenges, stabilize pricing, and support broader economic resilience.
The government has indicated that similar engagements will continue across other sectors to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusive economic planning that reflects the interests of both citizens and businesses.
