A network of former students of Ibrahim Bangura has distributed 800 bags of rice to communities in Port Loko and Kambia, combining humanitarian outreach with visible support for the academic-turned-politician’s emerging flagbearer campaign.

The initiative, carried out during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, targeted vulnerable households, particularly Muslim families observing the fasting period. Organizers said 300 bags were distributed in Port Loko and 500 in Kambia.

According to members of the group, the donations were financed through contributions from former students and young professionals who have rallied around Bangura’s political ambitions. The network says it includes more than 800 members globally, reflecting a growing trend in which educated youth are mobilizing resources and social capital to back preferred candidates.

Speaking during the distribution, a student leader identified as Bintu described the initiative as an expression of loyalty to a leader they believe represents compassion and service.

“This is a token of love and dedication to a leader who embodies compassion,” she said.

Another member, Abdul Hakim, framed the effort as a blend of political activism and community support.

“Politics without generosity is nothing short of naked ambition. We want to elevate the principles of love while advancing our political goals,” he said.

The students also conveyed Bangura’s goodwill to beneficiaries, reiterating what they described as his commitment to tackling food insecurity and improving social welfare in communities across the country.

The donation highlights how political support networks in Sierra Leone are increasingly organized through informal associations of professionals and alumni groups, particularly among younger demographics seeking to influence the country’s political landscape.
