Flagbearer aspirant of the All People’s Congress (APC) Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has called on party members to maintain peace, unity, and mutual respect as they proceed with their internal electoral process.
In a statement issued through his communications team, Dr. Bangura urged supporters and party stakeholders to approach the internal contest with a spirit that strengthens rather than weakens party cohesion.
Addressing the wider membership, he noted that internal elections should serve as a democratic exercise that reinforces unity and deepens respect among party members who share common political aspirations.
“While healthy debate and competition are natural in any democratic process, it is important that such engagement remains respectful and constructive,” the statement said.
Dr. Bangura, however, expressed concern over what he described as increasingly confrontational exchanges among supporters of various aspirants. According to the statement, some discussions within party spaces and on social media have degenerated into personal attacks and unhelpful remarks directed at fellow members and supporters of other candidates.
Such conduct, he emphasized, does not reflect the values and traditions the APC seeks to uphold.
He therefore called on party members to refrain from insults, provocation, or hostility as the internal contest progresses.
“We respectfully urge all supporters and well-wishers to avoid attacking, insulting, or provoking fellow party members, whether in person, at meetings, or on social media,” the statement noted. “We encourage everyone to remain calm and uphold the values of peace, mutual respect, discipline, and decorum throughout the electoral process.”
Dr. Bangura further reminded members that, beyond the current contest, they remain part of one political family with a shared responsibility to serve the people of Sierra Leone.
Supporters were also encouraged to promote their preferred candidates through ideas, policy proposals, and constructive engagement rather than hostility or division.
“The strength of our party lies in our ability to compete with dignity and emerge from the process even more united,” the statement added.
Dr. Bangura reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful, transparent, and credible internal election within the APC, expressing confidence that the exercise would ultimately strengthen the party’s democratic traditions.
He concluded by thanking party members for their continued dedication to preserving unity and stability within the party during the electoral period, while reiterating his call for fresh perspectives and energised leadership within the APC.
