On August 24, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone held the Farewell Reception for the Awardees of Chinese scholarship. H.E. Wang Qing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone, Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education of Sierra Leone, and Amb. Victoria M. Sulimani, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone, along with over 150 awardees, attended the Reception.
Ambassador Wang Qing firstly congratulated all the awardees of the Chinese scholarship.
He said it fully reflected the fruitful achievements in educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Sierra Leone.
“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sierra Leone 52 years ago, China has provided more than 1,000 scholarships to Sierra Leone and trained thousands of Sierra Leonean personnel.”
Ambassador Qing assured that “the Chinese side will align with the development agenda of the new Sierra Leonean government and continue to promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation including the education sector. I hope all the students will study hard and act as the ambassadors of China-Sierra Leone traditional friendship and cultural exchanges.”
Minister Wurie and Director-General Sulimani thanked China for its long-term strong support and assistance for the development of education and human resources of Sierra Leone.
“The Sierra Leonean side stands ready to work with the Chinese side to continue to promote exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.”
Representatives from Sino-Sierra Leone Alumni Association and the awardees of Chinese scholarship also delivered their votes of thanks.
