As part of its ongoing 20th anniversary celebrations in Sierra Leone and 25 years of operation in Africa, Africell Sierra Leone has strengthened its relationship with regional stakeholders through dedicated media engagements held over the weekend in Bo and Kenema.

The sessions, described as a “thank you tour,” brought together media practitioners, local authorities, and subscribers to reflect on Africell’s contributions to national development and its commitment to partnership with the media across the provinces.

Speaking at the events, Africell’s Media Relations Manager, Abdul Karim Sesay, said the engagements were an avenue to appreciate the longstanding collaboration between the company and media stakeholders. He reaffirmed Africell’s dedication to supporting the media landscape nationwide.

“Since our inception in 2005, Africell has provided more than just telecommunications services,” Sesay noted. “We have extended support in areas such as internet connectivity and electricity supply, particularly to media houses across all sixteen districts. Africell remains the only corporate institution with such a widespread investment in the media sector.”

Sesay also highlighted Africell’s open-door policy for partnerships and sponsorships, underscoring the company’s pivotal role in fostering development through public-private collaboration.

As part of the anniversary festivities, Sesay announced the ongoing Jubilee Jumbo Promotion, which offers Africell subscribers the chance to win a range of prizes, including cash rewards, generators, smartphones, motorbikes, and a grand prize—a fully furnished house at TAF Salone Micro City, John Obey. Subscribers qualify by recharging just 25 New Leones.

In addition, Sesay unveiled a song competition that invites musicians to create original compositions promoting Africell’s services. The winner will receive a cash prize of 100,000 New Leones.

Commending Africell’s efforts, Bo City Council Administrator Henry Powell praised the company’s role in local development. He cited Africell’s contribution to the facelift of key city locations, noting that the telecommunications giant had consistently filled the gap left by less responsive corporate entities.

DJ Slowe, a media entrepreneur and station owner in Kenema, recalled the transformative impact of Africell’s early promotional campaigns. “A man who won one billion old Leones during one of Africell’s earliest promotions in Kenema used the money to build a house and has since become a landlord,” he shared.

He also acknowledged Africell’s continued support to the media through initiatives like Afri Radio and broader partnerships with regional outlets.

The engagements in Bo and Kenema attracted a host of dignitaries, including paramount chiefs, council representatives, subscribers, and media personnel, reinforcing Africell’s position as a vital development partner across Sierra Leone.
