The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone has indicted Abu Kamara, the former Finance Manager of the Customs Department at the National Revenue Authority (NRA), on nine counts of possession of unexplained wealth, in a case that highlights the government’s renewed crackdown on corruption in public office.

According to the ACC, Mr. Kamara, whose official annual net salary was Le 152,790 (new Leones), is accused of acquiring assets vastly disproportionate to his known income over a six-year period, from March 2019 to June 2025.

The indictment, filed under Section 27(1)(b) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008, as amended in 2019, outlines significant real estate and business holdings allegedly amassed by Kamara during his tenure in public service.

Investigations conducted by the ACC revealed that Mr. Kamara owns or controls:
• A registered company, UK Trading Mini Mart SL Ltd, with outlets in Ogoo Farm, Jui, and Bo;
• Ten town lots of land in Gloucester Village, Western Area, purchased for a combined Le 505,000;
• Four separate buildings, including a four-storey structure in Babadorie Hills, and another under construction in Ogoo Farm;
• Two vehicles — a Nissan (Reg. No. APW 606) and a white Hyundai Jeep (Reg. No. UMU 023), reportedly purchased for Le 60,000 and Le 300,000 respectively.

The Commission maintains that Mr. Kamara has failed to provide a lawful explanation for the accumulation of these assets, which are considered inconsistent with his public earnings and declared financial status.

As of the time of publication, Mr. Kamara remains at large. The ACC has stated that it will pursue trial in absentia in accordance with Section 89(7)(a) of the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act of 2019, should the accused fail to appear before the court.

This latest indictment forms part of the Commission’s broader effort to clamp down on illicit wealth acquisition and restore public confidence in Sierra Leone’s public institutions.

The ACC has urged members of the public to support its ongoing investigations and report any related information that could aid in locating Mr. Kamara.
