Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, leader of the DIB Movement, has urged supporters of Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) to avoid violence, insults and intimidation ahead of the party’s lower-level elections.
Dr. Bangura said members could support different candidates but should not allow internal competition to damage party unity.
“We may support different candidates, but we must never allow competition to divide us,” he said.
He called on members with complaints or concerns about the electoral process to use the appropriate party channels rather than resorting to provocation or confrontation.
“Reject violence, insults, provocation and intimidation, and let genuine concerns be addressed through the proper channels,” he said.
Dr. Bangura also reminded supporters that the elections were temporary, while party members would remain comrades after the contests.
“These elections will come and go, but we will still be comrades,” he said.
He urged his supporters to show restraint and political maturity regardless of which candidates they backed.
Dr. Bangura called on APC members to embrace the principle of “Heal, Unite and Build”, saying internal competition should strengthen rather than weaken the party.
“Let us Heal, Unite and Build a stronger APC together, and may God guide our party and grant us peaceful elections,” he said.
The APC’s lower-level elections are being contested by candidates seeking positions within the party’s grassroots structures across the country.
