Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has reiterated its commitment to electoral reform and political dialogue following a high-level meeting with European Union and member state diplomats in Freetown, as debate continues over the implementation of post-election agreements.

The engagement brought together APC representatives and EU Ambassador Jacek Jankowski, alongside German Ambassador Pascal Richter, Irish Ambassador Patrick McManus, and French Chargé d’Affaires Jean Lamy. Discussions focused on the eight-point communiqué brokered by international moral guarantors, which forms part of the broader Agreement for National Unity and the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee established after the 2023 elections.

The APC stressed that full compliance with the agreement remains essential for advancing reforms aimed at strengthening electoral transparency, institutional credibility, and public trust in democratic processes.

The talks come against a backdrop of continued political tensions over the pace and scope of implementation of the reform agenda. The APC has repeatedly raised concerns over what it describes as delays in fully executing the Tripartite Committee recommendations and related commitments under the eight-point communiqué. Government and allied officials, however, maintain that implementation is ongoing and must follow established legal and institutional processes.

The issue has remained a central point of post-election dialogue, with international partners, including the European Union and other moral guarantors, continuing to encourage sustained engagement and consensus-building between political actors.

Reaffirming its position, the APC welcomed continued international involvement and expressed readiness to work with all stakeholders to advance reforms aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and national cohesion.
