Trump claims U.S. military strikes targeted terror group in Nigeria

U.S. President Donald Trump has said American forces carried out military strikes against Islamic State-linked militants operating in northwestern Nigeria, warning that further action would follow if attacks on Christians continued.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the operation was in response to what he described as the killing of Christians by the militant group. He claimed the strikes were carried out by the U.S. military and described them as successful.

“I warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughter of Christians, there would be consequences,” Trump wrote, adding that U.S. forces had acted accordingly.

Trump said the operation demonstrated U.S. military strength, insisting that his administration would not tolerate what he termed “radical Islamic terrorism.”

In a separate Christmas message, the U.S. president extended greetings while reiterating his warning to militant groups, saying further attacks would follow if violence against Christians continued.

No independent confirmation of the reported strikes was immediately available, and neither the Nigerian government nor the U.S. Department of Defense had issued an official statement at the time of publication.

More details are expected.
