Africell Sierra Leone on Tuesday 9 December 2025 hosted a homecoming ceremony for Sierra Leonean-born international music producer Omar Elkan Agyei at the company’s headquarters in Wilberforce. The event marked a proud moment for the young creative whose ascent in the global music industry has been closely followed and celebrated by Sierra Leoneans.

Elkan, renowned for his creativity, discipline, and distinctive fusion of African sounds, has carved out an impressive profile internationally. Raised by Sierra Leonean parents, he began experimenting with drums and digital beats early in life, gradually developing a sound that blends contemporary rhythms with traditional influences. His talent for transforming simple elements into powerful musical experiences has earned him recognition from audiences and industry leaders across the world.

Africell Media Manager Abdul Karim Sesay said the company was honored to welcome Elkan home. He reaffirmed Africell’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent by providing spaces where creativity can flourish. Sesay noted that the company had witnessed Elkan’s early development and expressed hope that his return would open new avenues for collaboration.

Africell CEO Shadi Al Gerjawi also paid tribute to Elkan, recalling his family’s personal connection with the producer. He shared the story of Elkan gifting his children their first drum set years ago, a gesture that sparked their interest in music. What began as “noise,” he said, grew into a genuine artistic journey.

Al Gerjawi emphasized that inspiration often comes from recognizing potential and giving young people the confidence to pursue it. He noted that Elkan’s accomplishments, which he follows closely on social media, will inspire countless others who may never meet him but will believe in themselves by watching him succeed.

The CEO highlighted that the growth of the creative industry is not about one star alone but about strengthening the entire ecosystem. Even the smallest artistic spark, he said, can lead to meaningful change. He expressed hope that Elkan would help elevate Sierra Leonean music globally, citing the excitement a local track recently generated at the Housemates Salone Season 4 eviction show. He concluded by entrusting Elkan with the responsibility and honor of carrying Sierra Leone’s music forward.

Elkan’s mother, Africell Customer Relations Director and Lead of the Africell Impact Foundation, Kippy Debs, spoke both as a parent and a professional. She described her son’s journey as one defined by discipline and commitment, recalling the many nights he spent perfecting a single sound in the studio. She expressed pride that Sierra Leone helped shape a young man who has become a role model to many.

Debs said the Africell Impact Foundation remains dedicated to identifying and supporting talent in media and the creative arts. She stressed that people grow not just from their environment but from the investments and opportunities they receive. Elkan’s rise, she said, proves that sustained development in the creative industry is possible in Sierra Leone.

In his remarks, Elkan said he was thrilled to be back home. He described Sierra Leone’s energy and rhythm as central to his creative identity, calling the city “a place where even chaos becomes melody.” He spoke about the importance of community, saying he had always felt grounded and connected in Sierra Leone. He added that he was eager to share music inspired by this environment with global audiences.

Elkan announced that his new EP, titled Baby Bundle, will be released on Friday 12 December. The project, he said, reflects his growth over the past seven years and includes a standout track, “Turn the Continent Up,” which he believes will make a significant impact. He said the EP celebrates his roots and the journey that shaped him.

Africell CEO Al Gerjawi later confirmed that Elkan will perform his newest songs at the grand finale of Housemates Salone Season 4 on 21 December 2025.

The homecoming underscores Africell’s continued commitment to promoting creativity, supporting young Sierra Leonean talent, and investing in the nation’s cultural landscape—further cementing its role as a leader not only in telecommunications but also in national development.
