In a major boost for women’s football, the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, has secured a $150,000 sponsorship deal from Marampa Mines Limited (MML) to support the 2025/2026 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League.

The landmark agreement -officially unveiled at the SLFA Secretariat in Freetown – represents the largest-ever corporate sponsorship directed toward women’s football in Sierra Leone.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Craig Dean, Chairman of Marampa Mines Limited, expressed pride in partnering with the SLFA under Kamara’s leadership. He described the sponsorship as a long-term commitment to advancing women’s football, saying MML’s support goes beyond a single season. “We are proud to stand with the SLFA in helping to grow the women’s game and empower female athletes across Sierra Leone,” Dean stated.

In his remarks, President Babadi Kamara thanked Marampa Mines for their trust and generosity, assuring that the funds will be used transparently to develop the women’s league. He hailed the partnership as a symbol of women’s empowerment and national unity, noting that football continues to play a vital role in promoting social cohesion.

Kamara also highlighted the recent successes of the Sierra Leone U17 and Senior Women’s National Teams, both of which won the 2025 WAFU Women’s Championship, adding that the new sponsorship would help sustain and build upon those achievements.

Sports Minister Augusta James-Teima praised President Kamara’s leadership and commended Marampa Mines for setting an example in corporate social responsibility. “This shows that Marampa Mines is not only here to mine resources but to help build Sierra Leone,” she said.

The event was attended by SLFA Vice President II Prince Saquee, National Sports Authority Deputy Executive Director Dr. Abdulrahman Swarray, and Women’s Premier League Chairperson Madam Rachael Pessima. It featured the presentation of a symbolic $150,000 cheque and the official signing of the sponsorship agreement.

As a gesture of appreciation, President Kamara presented a national team jersey to the MML Chairman, officially naming him an Ambassador of the Sierra Leone Football Association.

The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Sierra Queens and FC Kallon captain Sarah Bangura, who expressed deep gratitude to both President Kamara and Marampa Mines for their continued commitment to the growth of women’s football in Sierra Leone.
