APC: The opposition that sold its teeth

Yet again, the All People’s Congress (APC) Executive has graced the public domain with another grandiloquent press release—an exercise in political theatre rather than genuine opposition.

One might applaud their consistency in producing these communiqués time and again, were it not for the glaring reality: they remain complicit in nearly every misdeed of the Bio administration.

For three long years, we have endured this ritual—the APC executive solemnly declaring its refusal to countenance the “dangerous plans” of the ruling government, only for their thunderous words to dissolve into the silence of inaction.

Indeed, the APC has mastered a peculiar art form: announcing moral outrage at the “dangerous designs” of the Bio administration, only to step politely aside as those very designs are implemented with brazen impunity.

It matters little in the end. The Bio administration, a government with scant regard for the electorate’s concerns, marches ahead regardless—utterly unfazed by the posturing of what increasingly resembles a neutered APC opposition.

Never in living memory has Sierra Leone witnessed such a political scam: an opposition party executive so bereft of bite that likening them to a “toothless bulldog” seems generous. Devoid of teeth, claws, or backbone, they are a hollow echo of what a credible counterweight should be.

The very guardians of democracy have reduced themselves to mere spectators, allowing the ruling administration to operate unchecked. At times, one wonders whether the nation has already slipped, by stealth, into the habits of a one-party state.

Every scheme of the Bio administration, however reckless or perilous, is greenlit by the tacit acquiescence of an opposition that prefers the pretence of defiance to the practice of resistance.

And so, the people are left asking—perhaps in despair, perhaps in mockery—whether this APC executive is truly as useless as public sentiment insists.

Damn it, if redemption is possible, let it be now. Break free from the political clutches of the Bio administration, and prove that you are more than the hollow caricature the nation has come to know.

The APC Executive must extricate itself from the perception of captivity and prove, for once, that its resolve is composed of sterner stuff than mere ink and paper.

Until then, your continuous pronouncements remain little more than words drifting into the void.
