The Government of Sierra Leone has confirmed the arrest of Abubakar Boxx Konteh, a strong member of the country’s main opposition party, All People’s Congress(APC).
According to the government, in a press statement issued by its ministry of information and civic education on the 25 March, 2024, the arrest of Konteh was successfully conducted on 23rd March, 2024, in a joint operation between the Guinean authorities and the Sierra Leone security apparatus at the Guinea airport.
The press statement says that Konteh who was in hiding in Guinea was attempting to flee to Senegal when he was arrested.
Konteh who has been very active on social media including his Facebook page criticizing the government of President Julius Maada Bio, is accused of “providing material support in the planning, execution and escape/hiding of the executors of the failed November 26, 2023 coup.”
He is also accused of “being involved in the trade of illegal substances including the deadly kush in Sierra Leone.”
Government says he will be extradited to Sierra Leone for interrogations by the Sierra Leone Police.
