Residents of Makeni have hailed Shadi Gerjawi, Chief Executive Officer of Africell Sierra Leone, as a “God-sent man” in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the city’s development.

During a working visit to Makeni as part of the Afrimedia Tour 2025, CEO Gerjawi was accompanied by Martison Obeng-Agyei, CEO of Afrimoney, along with senior management from both Africell and Afrimoney. The visit aimed to bring Africell’s services closer to the community, offering residents the opportunity to engage directly with the company and learn about its latest innovations, connectivity solutions, and opportunities.

Addressing the gathering, Gerjawi emphasized the importance of receiving clear and constructive feedback from customers in Makeni and the surrounding areas. He reaffirmed Africell’s commitment to meeting customer expectations, improving service delivery, and strengthening community ties.

As Africell marks 20 years in Sierra Leone and 25 years across Africa, the company is celebrating with several promotions, including the Jubilee Jumbo Promo, which offers lucky winners—such as Makeni residents—the chance to win a fully furnished house at TAF Micro City.

A highlight of the visit was Gerjawi’s pledge to renovate Makeni’s iconic clock tower, a cherished city landmark. He also announced a major fibre optic installation project, set to begin by the end of August, aimed at boosting network coverage and enhancing service quality for both residents and businesses.

In addition, Africell is supporting the development of a memorial cemetery to honor the people of Makeni—further demonstrating the company’s long-term commitment to community development. Gerjawi noted that the Northern Region remains one of Africell’s strongest customer bases and pledged continued investment in infrastructure and services.

Africell is rolling out several technological upgrades in the coming months:
• Citywide Fibre Network: Deployment of high-speed fibre optic infrastructure by the end of August to deliver faster, more reliable connectivity.
• Enhanced Connectivity: Upgraded network capabilities to provide superior internet and telecommunications services.
• Afrimoney Expansion: Ongoing development of Afrimoney, the company’s digital financial platform, to improve access to financial services.
• Customer-Driven Improvements: Continued engagement with residents to tailor services and innovations to local needs.

These initiatives reflect Africell’s strategy of combining cutting-edge technology with a customer-first approach, reinforcing its position as a leader in Sierra Leone’s telecommunications sector.
